Radio Free Vermont "It is time for all people of conscience to call upon America to return to her true home of brotherhood and peaceful pursuits. We cannot remain silent as our nation engages in one of history's most cruel and senseless wars. During these days of human travail, we must encourage creative dissenters. We need them because the thunder of their fearless voices will be the only sound stronger than the blasts of bombs and the clamor of war hysteria. Those of us who love peace must organize as effectively as war hawks. As they spread the propaganda of war, we must spread the propaganda of peace. "Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (1929 - 1968)

Campaign Get-Together and Meet the Press

    Engage the press!

This will be a great opportunity for supporters of a Free Vermont to come out and tell the media that we’d like to see fair coverage of Independent candidates! To organize, we’ll be meeting at the Vermont Pub and Brewery at 5pm, and walking over to New Moon at 6:15. We’ll have buttons for those who’d like them (if you already have one, please wear it!), and will hopefully spend our time at VPB figuring out some good questions to ask. Dennis Steele and many of the other Independent candidates will be there, and Second Vermont Republic founder Thomas Naylor might make an appearance. Please make it if you can! Facebook event page.
The Vermont Young Professionals organization is sponsoring an event described as:
VYP is hosting an event that will give young professionals the chance to tell local reporters what they want to hear about the election! Listen to local reporters speak about the upcoming race, have a few drinks with friends, and get the chance to offer your opinion about what YOU want to hear in the… news. New Moon Cafe has been kind enough to host this event, with drinks catered by none other than Drink!

    Our panel will feature:
    Kristin Carlson – WCAX
    Stewart Ledbetter – WPTZ
Rachel Feldman – WCAX & MTV
    Andy Bromage – Seven Days

Moderated by Frank Bryan – Professor of Political Science, UVM

New Moon Cafe is located at 150 Cherry St.
    Burlington, VT

The Vermont Pub and Brewery is at

    AARP Debate Update

As those of you who’ve been following the election are likely already aware, the Democratic gubernatorial primary has been deemed “too close to call” with Peter Shumlin leading Doug Racine by a margin of less than 200 votes. According to Racine’s website, he and Shumlin have agreed to wait until the official results are released by the Secretary of State, which could be anywhere from Friday to Tuesday. According to a comment by a Seven Days reporter, the organizer of the AARP, Dave Reville, stated that, “if there’s a recount, the debate will be postponed, and a makeup date would depend on how long the recount takes.” As such, we’re putting the “Let Dennis Speak” rally, planned for tomorrow at 6pm, on hold until we hear definitely whether or not the event will be happening. Should it be postponed, we will, of course, be congregating outside of it on the new date.

*UPDATE* The AARP just announced the debate is being postponed to September 26th – hope to see you outside with a Dennis Steele sign!
